Can I open a saved .pst file (on disc) in Outlook Express 6 when the email saved were in Outlook 2007?

I was working on Outlook 2007 and made a back up (on disc) of my emails in .pst format. I am currently working on Outlook Express 6 and really need to view some of those saved emails. Is it possible to open these emails to view? My system says it cant open the .pst file when I click on it in the disc drive. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Unfortunately, that may not be possible. Reading "newer" protocols with an "older" program generally is not possible due to updates to the programming. 7 might open 6, but 6 probably will not open 7.

If I set up my virgin email account on outlook express will i still be able to access it from other computers?

Yes. However some important things to note about configuring Outlook Express (OE)

You can configure OE to leave mail on the server (typically a check box) or to remove it from the server. I don't remember the exact path to get to the setting but the Help menu will certainly guide you.

If it is configured not to remove from the server, then you will be able to see your email both via the web and in OE.

However, if you configure OE to remove from the server then it is a bit more convoluted. You will still be able to see your email via the web, but once you start OE, it will download the email to your machine and remove it from the server so it will no longer be viewable via the web - only in OE.

I use Outlook 2007 and use this to an advantage. I have it configured to remove email from the server but how I manage email is by using the web interface to preview and remove most of the garbage BEFORE I start Outlook. Then once I triage my email, I start Outlook which now downloads (and removes from the server) only the important emails I want.

You need to pay extra for that service. In your Yahoo mail, click on Upgrades where you will see the premium services. Once you subscribe, they will send you instructions for connecting your Outlook Express to Yahoo. It won't work with the free version of Yahoo.

I doubt it's changed since, but a few years ago Yahoo! and Excite would not let you use Outlook or similar programs to retrieve your mail.

The free Yahoo cannot be accessed because it uses it's own Web based email client, but if you upgraded to Yahoo Mail Plus then you can access it through Outlook because it uses POP3 access protocol.

FYI, Gmail and Hotmail can be accessed via outlook, they use POP3.

I take it you already have it installed.

Have you made up your address list yet? Once you have this set up, all you have to do is click on the "To" field and your address book will open up for you to choose the name of the one you want to send to.

If you want to send an email to someone, click on compose and a box will open up for you to add their email address in the "To" field. Type your message and when you are finished, click send. The tabs are at the top of the page.

Click the "Add" button.

In the text box labeled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."

In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."

Under "My incoming mail server is a..." select "POP3."

Reply:I think this problem is solved by itself, when you install outlook express and configure an email account. Somewhere in the process, the program asks you if you want outlook express to be your default mail program. Just click Yes.

How can I access my Outlook Express email if...?

I just moved and everything works perfect since I've hooked up my computer except my Outlook Express. The first time I tried to access it after it got hooked up at this new house, a box popped up with my username and password. It has never done this before. Anyhow, my username and pw where already filled in so I click "ok". It did not accept them though. The only change that has been made since my move is Cox (my ISP) gave me a new modem and took my older one. (They are both cable modems and I don't see why this would be the cause of any problems).

It sounds as if Outlook Express has been set up differently from the way it was before and it's possible that it may not be recognizing the new modem - the data from the old modem may still be in place, so if that is the case you will have to configure your new modem. When the box pops up again, click on Properties to check your settings. Under the "General" tab, check to see that the new modem is listed in the "Connect using" box. Also, check out the data in the other tabs to make sure that they are correct.

I have upgraded my computer 3 times and each time I have had problems with Outlook Express. This time when I upgraded, I actually got a new computer and so I now have both computers, side-by-side, on my desktop. When I set up my Outlook Express account for the new computer, I used my other computer as a guide (I still use both computers). The same thing happened as before when I had upgraded the other computer - I could not connect %26amp; kept getting error messages. Each time I had to contact my service provider - this time my ISP told me that one thing in my setup was wrong and we corrected it. Ironically, the change he had me make was the only error message I received when I tried to connect, so I changed it back to the way it was before I called him, and to the exact same configuration as the other computer, and tried to connect again. That time it worked. I am convinced that the ISP has to do something on their end in order to register your computer online. So, my advice is to call your ISP - and it would be a good idea to go through the setup in properties, tab by tab. Good Luck!

How do i get my outlook express email icon back in my tool bar?

Hi, submitted this question a few days ago, received an answer to right click menu bar, choose customize, press reset and close...did this, but I have only gmail icon and yahoo mail neither of which I use or will ever use; I just want my regular email icon to appear. It used to be just an envelope with the word mail. This is on my tool bar as well, but it is yahoo mail. Now I need to get rid of those three icons (how?) and would like to place my regular email icon there. Not very computer savy, so please subit answers like you were talking to a dummy (thats me)

Make sure the toolbar is unlocked first (right click on toolbar). Then I think all you have to do is drag the outlook express icon from your desktop into the toolbar, and it saves it there. Then, when done, lock your toolbar again so you don't delete it again...

I need help with my OUTLOOK EXPRESS email!!?

I really need somebody who is computer savy to give me some advice about my outlook express email. When I click into it it says that it is receiving mail and it the will freeze up. I have about 16 emails from the same address and I guess they were a virus or something. I am in a real jam because I have SO much information in that email account that I can't get to. First, it may be that you have a message coming in that is too large or corrupted. If you only have one email account coming in through Outlook Express, call your email service provider and tell them to clear your email incoming messages. You will lose all of the ones that have not been downloaded yet, but that will end the freezing and the messages in your Outlook Express folders will still be there.

If you have more than one email account coming in through OE, you need to find out which account is causing the jam.

Disconnect the computer from the internet.

Restart the computer.

Open Outlook Express.

When it tries to download email, click Tools, Send and Receive All, Stop and close that window.

Click Tools, Options, General tab.

Uncheck the box: "Send and receive messages at startup."

Click OK as many times as necessary to close all screens except the main OE screen.

Reconnect the computer to the internet.

Click Tools, Send and Receive, and click on the first account. If it downloads messages and OE doesn't freeze, that account is not the rascal. Click Tools, Send and Receive, and click the next account. If the computer freezes, call customer support on that account and get the incoming messages deleted.

If that does not end the freezing problem, temporarily delete that account and see if that solves the problem. Here's how: Click Tools, Accounts. Select the account. Click Properties. Use pen and paper to make notes of all of the settings in all of tabs. That way you can reinstall this account later. Then click OK and click the Remove button. Then OK (or Remove, I don't remember which).

Restart the computer and see if the problem is solved. If that solved the problem, reinstall that account into OE. Click Tools, Accounts, Add, Mail, then fill out each screen using your notes.

If deleting that account didn鈥檛 solve the problem, call customer service. It is now their problem.

If deleting accounts doesn鈥檛 solve the problem, or if the freezing occurs on every account, Outlook Express may have a software corruption. First save all email that you want to save, then uninstall Outlook Express and then download a new copy from Windows Update, and reinstall it.

Saving all email from the Inbox and Saved Items folders might take a long time, but you should have been doing this every week or every month and there is no choice now.
Reply:open it and stop the recieving messages (press cancel) and erase the messages or read them then erase...because if you have too much ur computer will freeze up....depending on what time of comuter you have..

during set up it asks for incoming mail(POP3, IMAP, or HTTP)server and also asks for outgoing mail(SMPT)server. I am clueless to what either is! I have highspeed cable internet connection from insight communications. I really want to use outloos express because I like the way it handles photos, and it also alaws you to use a photo as the background of your letter, and since I am a photographer this would be very nice for me. All advice is welcom!!!

Not at all - in fact you might find it easier - as your emails can be downloaded to your PC, where you can send and recieve your emails from.... save you going on to the website
